Terms of use
Last updated 8 October 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Alexis Diamond, based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, who runs Ideas at Play (“we”). By using the site, joining a session or signing in, you agree to them. Our privacy policy explains how we handle information.
1. The service
Ideas at Play lets people make, publish and use interactive teaching models (“artifacts”), and run live sessions in which groups use an artifact together. It is a free pilot. Features, limits and availability may change, and we may pause or end the service; if we end it, we will give signed-in users reasonable notice to download their work.
2. Who can use it
You must be at least 13. Students under the age of majority where they live should use Ideas at Play only as part of a class, with their teacher’s or school’s permission. If you use Ideas at Play for an institution, you confirm you may do so for it.
3. Your account
Teachers and creators sign in with Google. Keep your account secure; you are responsible for what is done with it. If you add your own AI provider API key, any charges from that provider are yours.
4. Your content
You keep ownership of what you create and upload. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, display, run and process it (including sending it to AI providers and running accessibility and behaviour checks) only as needed to operate, secure and improve the service. When you publish an artifact, others may use it under the licence you choose for it (for example CC BY 4.0), and may remix it if you allow remixing.
You confirm you have the rights to what you upload and publish, including any source documents, and that publishing it doesn’t break anyone else’s rights or any agreement.
5. Live sessions
Moves and answers in a session are shared live with everyone in the room and with the teacher who runs it. Teachers are responsible for how they use sessions with their students, including telling students not to enter personal information. Session data is deleted automatically 12 months after the session started, and the teacher can delete it sooner.
6. Acceptable use
Don’t use Ideas at Play to:
- post anything unlawful, infringing, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit or deceptive;
- build artifacts that try to collect personal information, imitate another site, mislead users, or get around the sandbox or security rules;
- disrupt the service, overload it, or access data that isn’t yours;
- impersonate others or misrepresent an artifact’s review status or authorship;
- host websites, landing pages, advertising or other pages that aren’t teaching or learning resources, or use the site as general web hosting or file storage;
- create artifacts in bulk or by automated means to get around limits.
We may screen content automatically, remove content, and suspend or close accounts that break these terms.
7. Publishing and curation
Ideas at Play is a curated collection of teaching resources. Publishing an artifact, listing it, or making a folder public asks us to show your work to everyone; it is a privilege we offer, not a right. We decide, at our discretion, what appears publicly: we may screen and review anything before or after it becomes public; decline to publish it; unpublish it, return it to a draft, or remove it from browsing, search or the catalog; change how it is described, tagged or featured; and delete content that breaks these terms. We may do this even when content breaks no specific rule, for example when it doesn’t fit the purpose of the collection, and we don’t have to give reasons, though we will usually leave a note.
Private drafts and work shared with a group by link are not screened for suitability, but must still follow section 6. We may set and change limits on how many artifacts, publications and uploads an account may make.
8. AI-generated content and trust tiers
Artifacts may be generated or revised by AI and can contain mistakes. Review an artifact before teaching with it. Trust tiers, reviews and checks are signals, not guarantees. Ideas at Play is for education; nothing on it is professional advice.
9. Copyright complaints
If you believe content on Ideas at Play infringes your rights, write to hello@ideasatplay.org with the page address, the work you believe is infringed, and how to reach you. We will review it promptly and may remove the content.
10. No warranty
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we make no promises that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for a particular purpose, and we aren’t responsible for content others post.
11. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost data, profits or teaching time, and our total liability to you for any claim about the service is limited to CA$100. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection law that can’t be limited by agreement.
12. Ending your use
You can stop using Ideas at Play at any time and ask us to delete your account (see the privacy policy). Sections 4 (for content already published under a licence), 10, 11 and 13 continue after your use ends.
13. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes will be heard by the courts in Ottawa, Ontario, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring them there.
14. Changes
We may update these terms. We will post changes here and update the date at the top; for material changes we will tell signed-in users before they take effect. Continuing to use Ideas at Play after that means you accept the updated terms.
